That's right! Barak Davis asked me to be his wife on top of a mountain overlooking Simi Valley, California on July 14th, 2007! And of course, I said YES!
Barak had been in India for two months on a mission trip and we were both excited and counting down the days until his return. We planned to each fly into L.A. on the same day and spend a week in CA together visiting both our families and friends.
I was so thankful on the day he was to return, that even though I had a blog-worthy work trip where everything went wrong trying to get back home, I kept reminding myself that Barak was on his way back to the States! I finally made it to bed at 4:30 am, only to be awakened at 6 am by Barak, still in India! From Tuesday until Friday, flight after flight were cancelled on poor Barak and Willie and we didn't even know how or when they would make it home! I was so sad, but decided to go to L.A. anyway and believe he would make it back.
It was truly a miracle that they caught a flight on Friday that not only put them in 1st class, but also delivered them safe and sound (although without any luggage) with 12 hours to spare before I was to arrive!
Barak went straight to the ring store, still in the same outfit he'd been wearing for nearly a week, and spent all day selecting in person the ring he'd been planning for much longer than I expected! He purchased the most beautiful, perfect ring, put it in a gift box from India in his pocket, and picked me up from the airport.
And wouldn't you know it... my luggage got lost too! We were both tired and dirty, so we returned to his family's house and went straight to bed. But before saying goodnight, he told me he wanted to get up early the next morning to climb the hill to the cross that overlooks the city and watch the sunrise.
We got up at 5 am, grabbed some tea at Starbucks, and went to the top of the hill, where we sat at the base of the cross, enjoying the sunrise and beautiful 360 view while we talked for over two hours.
Then Barak said he wanted to pray with me and got down on his knees in front of me. After praying together, he pulled the box out of his pocket and said "Will you marry me?" Of course, I grabbed the box, grabbed him, and said yes in between giggles! I hugged him for so long that he finally said, "You have to open the box!" And when I did, I found the most beautiful ring that he had so lovingly picked out for me!
We are so excited to be getting married in December and starting a new life together in Louisville, KY, where he will be a full-time med student! It is honestly amazing to both of us to look back over the past few years right up through our wedding planning and see God's hand lovingly and gently guiding both of us in ways that could only be orchestrated by Him!
Thank you for your love and prayers!
